New EU energy label from March 2021

Together for a better future

The new EU energy label

In December 2019, the EU Commission issued new directives on energy consumption labelling and on the eco design of dishwashers, refrigeration appliances, wine units, washing machines and washer-dryers.
From March 2021, these regulations place all manufacturers under obligation to provide all units sold in Europe with a new energy label.

General
information

The new EU energy label from 2021

These EU directives aim to continue to reduce energy consumption within Europe, helping to promote environmental protection efforts as a result. Adjusting the scale also serves to improve the comprehensibility and assessment of products for consumers.

An overview of the most important changes

New legal requirements and energy efficiency class thresholds are leading to a more rigorous label classification.

Eliminating the plus classes for energy efficiency, for example A+++, and reclassifying from A to G will ensure better comparability of products.

From March 1, 2021, you can obtain further information on the machine using the QR code, which will take you to the EU database (EPREL).

Why are machines supplied with two energy labels?

The EU stipulates that for the transitional period until March 2021 all appliances must be supplied with both old and new energy labels. By adjusting the energy efficiency (A to G) scale on the new energy label, it appears as if the energy efficiency of the machine has deteriorated. But this is not the case. Due to the new energy efficiency class thresholds required by law, the label classification is more rigorous, so that the appliance was allocated to a new class.

Up to February 28, 2021, only the current EU energy label is to be displayed at dealers and on the Miele website.

Further information

The German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association ZVEI has compiled a comprehensive information brochure. It explains the background of the revision, deadlines, obligations of producers and distributors, the new eco-design requirements on resource efficiency and the new energy labels themselves.
